Wow, that is great info, Jeff.

I agree too that there are still a number of challenges for any projects like this getting off the ground.

But who knows . . . maybe, it's just a timing thing.

Thanks for the interest and kind words...

It seems like the OKRA effort ought to be (somehow) linked to the KBART project from NISO and the UKSG:

http://www.niso.org/committees/kbart/index.html

Although they're not necessarily pushing for a shared KB resource, they are pushing for "better" holdings data from content providers, so there seems to be a natural synergy between the two projects.

Great preso, by the way - I'm a bit skeptical than this problem can be solved outside the commercial vendor space, given the history of the JAKE project, but it's a fine idea if enough people can commit to it.

Well, it's done . . . I set up a google group at: http://groups.google.com/group/library-okra-public

I will create a post on it, as soon as I make sure that all the features work as planned . . . I may also discuss w/ the roundtable discussion group we are leading this morning.

Hmmm, I think I agree w/ Toni that something that allows e-mail posting is going to reach the greatest # of people. I think I am leaning at the moment toward setting up a Public Google Group.

People should be able to subscribe to this as an e-mail listserv, rss feed, or just check the group page every once in a while.

Plus, all the "cool kids" are already doing it.

e.g. http://groups.google.com/group/apml-public and http://groups.google.com/group/dataportability-public

Excellent presentation, guys. People seem excited to continue this conversation, so a listserv seems like a good next step.
